David de Gea Quintana (born 7 November 1990) is a Spanish
professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for English club Manchester
United and for the Spanish national team. One of his best achievements is that on
13 May 2014, De Gea was selected in Spain's 30-man provisional squad for the
World Cup, and later made the final squad.
The 24-year-old athlete started his senior career with
Atletico Madrid in 2008 before moving to Manchester United for £17.8 million –
the British record fee for a goalkeeper. However, recently there is a rumour
about Real Madrid interested in acquiring David de Gea, but the Manchester
United goalkeeper sounded determined to stay at Old Trafford in the next
several years.
De Gea, who will be eligible for free transfer when his
contract expires in June 2016, is reportedly on Real Madrid's radar as the
powerhouse club is determined to bring the star goalkeeper back to Spanish La
Liga.
With no deal in sight between De Gea and Manchester United,
previous reports indicated that the Spain international will eventually decide
to return to Spanish La Liga. But in an interview with FIFA on Tuesday, De Gea
hinted that he would love to continue playing in the English Premier League
because the level of competition helped him improve significantly over the past
four years.
"English football has changed me a great deal," De
Gea said. "I've developed a lot physically, greatly improved my
concentration and generally improved all aspects of my game. I was very young
when I came here, but four years on, things are very good overall. This league
really suits me, as you learn a lot here."
This is show that he is willing stay in his current team, but
the rumour of his exit intensified instead. There is also news Manchester United signed veteran goalkeeper
Victor Valdes in January. Most analysts considered the move as Manchester
United manager Louis Van Gaal's backup plan in case they fail to reach a deal
with De Gea before the end of next season.
